Kung Fu seminar
Pole seminar taught by Sigung at the NJ branch today. It was an action-oriented seminar and we spent most of the time drilling the techniques and applications we were taught. Really good stuff.

Sandbag Murder
Grabbed Larry Storch for a basement quickie: Sandbag shouldering x 30 sec Sandbag ground and pound x 30 sec Repeat 10x, resting 30 sec between each round. I alternated sides on the shouldering and ended up doing 8 reps for every 30 second interval (4/side). I wore gloves throughout to make sure my hands stay pretty. This would have been more murderous if I did a few more intervals - next...

Small class tonight. I ran them through the standard warmup, drilled some basic kicks, did some bridge training, and worked on forms. Got a decent sweat, but couldn’t stick around as long as I’d have liked.

Team Workout: 500 Double Unders/Wall Sit
Frank and I teamed up for this one. We took turns doing double unders until we hit 500 as a team. The guy not doing double unders “rested” in a wall sit. Total time: 11:55. We traded off after every 50 double unders until we hit 400, then we traded every 25. This was pretty tough.

Paleo Check-In, Day 18
36 hour fast It’s easy to avoid non-paleo foods when you don’t eat! Started fasting at 10pm Monday, will eat again 10am Wednesday. I was doing some intermittent fasting at least once a week (often twice) before the little one was born, but haven’t given it a try in a while. It always makes me feel sharp, focused, and surprisingly hunger isn’t an issue. Now that her...

Kung Fu practice
I headed out for some morning practice by the Old Stone House today. I kicked things off with Tiet Sien Kuen, as I tend to do. After that I worked on Ng Ying Kuen since I had some space to really open it up. To make sure I took full advantage of the space, I ran through the leopard section 20x. Burpees / Double Unders
Poached from Crossfit Virtuosity: 10 Burpees 20 Double Unders Repeat 5x Total time: 4:20. This is a good short, intense, burpee-centric workout that will hopefully help me get my 100 burpee time down. I was shooting for sub 4 and I had a shot at it, but I had to take a few breaths during the burpee portion.

Team Workout: 100 Burpees/Plank Hold
After our practice, Dave and I decided to do 200 burpees as fast as possible, with one person doing burpees, one ‘resting’ in a plank hold and switching as necessary. We only made it to 100 because he needed to stop, but it took us about 6:20. The plank position isn’t really a rest at all and keeps those shoulders burning for your next set of burpees.
