Got in late, so I warmed myself up and then jumped in with the guys for a sweep technique. Stuck around afterwards to run through Tiet Sien Kuen, which felt great. I need to make more time for this. Got to.
I’m feeling kinda beat up from poor sleep the past few nights, so I didn’t go too crazy in class tonight. Led the guys through a warmup and some stance/forearm training before we got into forms. I didn’t get much dedicated work for myself and just ended up instructing.
First class in a while since all the holiday and blizzard madness. Worked on a few hand techniques with the class and then hung around and worked some bridge training and Fu Hok Seung Ying Kuen on my own. Also worked in a little handstand practice.
I dropped in for a rare Monday appearance at the school tonight. A bunch of basic stance drills and stuff then we got right into forms. I helped the guys out and gave out moves; didn’t get too much work for myself.
I had free reign tonight, so I made things interesting. Partnered up into teams of 2 for a little static/dynamic workout. First drill was partner A slug crawling to one end of the school and back while partner B held a plank, then switch and repeat 3x. The second drill had partner A throwing 20 roundhouse kicks to the heavy bag while partner B sat in a deep horse stance. Switch and repeat x 3. Then some torturous wrist/forearm training with the poles and three star block. Buddied up again for the technique work tonight, which was bong sau/butterfly palm combos. We worked a few variations and everyone was really getting the hang of it and made solid improvement. I hung around for a little Chun Choi Dai Dao after all that.
Tonight we focused on some really basic stuff, but there ain’t nothing wrong with that. Got a good, honest sweat just drilling the basic moves and doing some stance training. Stuck around and ran through Yu Ga Dai Pa to make sure I don’t get too rusty. I am feeling a little rusty overall though - I’m used to much more kung fu volume.
I got to class a little late tonight, so I warmed myself up and then jumped into the workout with the fellas. We focused on a dead simple but effective block/strike/strike combo today. After everyone had a handle on it we partnered up and let the guys uncork it a bit. I stuck around to work on Ng Lung Ba Gwa Cheung for a bit, but not as long as I would’ve liked.
Didn’t run the class tonight, but went through the whole workout with the group. We did some standard warmup stuff, some stance and bridge training, and then trained the hard chi gung for a while. Did some review of previously covered techniques afterwards and sort of freestyled. My left elbow was barking by the end of class - needs some RICE.
Since I was running the show tonight, I cooked up a quick circuit for the warmup and jumped in with the fellas: 5 burpees, 10 med ball slams, 15 jumping jacks repeated 5x. After that we focused on bridge training for a while before going into chop choy work. We drilled individually and with a partner and we came up with an impromptu drill that really seemed to work well. Good class.
I missed part of the warmup so I did a quick 50 burpees as penance. Man, I felt like a lean, mean burpee machine while I was doing them. There must be something to this paleo diet stuff! Anyway, worked out with the class for a whole bunch of tiger claw conditioning techniques and training. Are we bringing back Tiger Claw Thursdays? Stay tuned to find out!
Headed outside to the Old Stone House on this crisp autumn evening for a much needed workout to clear my head. Started with Tiet Sien Kuen to clear the fog and then worked on Fu Hok Seung Ying Kuen after that, focusing on the opening session. Didn’t even realize how cold it was out there until my walk home.
Standard warmup today followed by some stomach and bridge conditioning. Worked on a few basic hand techniques with the first class and then worked primarily on sword drills / Hang Yuet Darn Dao with the later crew.
Good class today. I’m almost never at the school on a Friday night and since it was a different crew, we went for some different training. Warmup, some stance drills, some kicks, then focused on broadsword drills for the remainder of class. Stuck around and worked on Fu Hok Seung Ying Kuen for a while.
Got in late so I missed the warmup and all that, but jumped in for some snake techniques. Stayed after class to work on Gung Ji Fuk Fu Kuen a bit - ran through the form a few times to work on the basics and stances.
