Full day of testing and seminars at the Clifton branch today. The morning was reserved for the Tiet Sien Kuen tune-up, which is always great. Then, after junior testing we had to cut the day short and head home to try to beat the snow. We’ll make up the junior seminar, which is the one where I’ll be doing the sweating, next weekend.
A full day of testing and seminars at the Clifton branch today. In the morning Sigung explained a lot of the finer points of the updated version of Tiet Sien Kuen. Really great, eye-opening stuff as always. Then, after junior testing I stuck around for the Gung Ji seminar where we covered some basic elbow techniques and gings contained in the form. Also amazing, especially when combined with the lessons we covered in the TSK seminar.
Ng Ying Kuen seminar with Sigung at the Clifton branch today. Really amazing stuff and it was a working seminar, so there was lots of sweat. We learned some great additions to the snake and leopard sections and also reviewed the ten tigers section. Tough to summarize what we covered, so I just need to practice the hell out of this stuff and get it burned into my brain.
Aside from all of the great techniques, one major takeaway was that the leopard is the powerlifter of the animal world - incredibly fast and strong over short distances. All that explosive strength training should pay off when applying leopard techniques.
Sensei Ismael Franco of Tora Dojo held another amazing chin na seminar at our school. We reviewed a lot of the basic locks and went into detail with some really devastating techniques. It’s one thing to know how to pummel someone with Hung Ga, but the feeling of turning people into an unwilling marionette with some joint locks is really cool in a different way.
